[not too long after his conversation with Orion came to end, he immediately set about gathering parts to create a special scanner that could detect the energy stamps of console activity, as Orion so kindly put it. so far, he's managed to completely cannibalise both sides of his suite's barcode scanner, the remaining items not used by the TARDIS--leaving only one functioning heating coil for tea of course, as well as the fridge--and a maintenance robot he caught trying to repair his barcode scanner and later dismantled.

currently, he sits in the living area of his suite, all these parts spread around him in what looks to be utter chaos, but makes complete and rational sense to him. he has his glasses on with an attachment to the right side that contains various additional lenses for close-up detail work--and wears an expression of complete concentration and is seemingly unaware of anyone else in the room. until he looks up at those in the room with him.]

How are the rest of you lot coming? I think I have everything from Orion's list here to create what we need, but there's a few ways we can go about it. I'm just about done with mine, I think. Need to do a couple calibration tests. This...hasn't been made easy with all the strange physics defying anomalies--and frankly, I would've been done long before now [doesn't bother to hide his annoyance in regards to that.]

[sighs in a mock put-out sort of way] Oh fine. If you want to know, it's more of a scanner than a tracking device.

What for? It appears from its configuration it is set to detect electromagnetic pulses.

Something like that, yes. Since Orion was never privy to the information of where something so simple like the location of the back-up command consoles could be, it's set to locate the energy signatures of such equipment.

At least it should be.

It will not help to find it, however. He is the only one capable of activating them.

He may be the only one who can activate them, but we can't afford to cart him around the entire damn ship and expose him to his father.

Why? He is useless to us either way. He cannot even reconfigure the consoles to be activated by another.

No, because he's an idiot. But he's an alive idiot and one in our hands. We don't have a choice but to use him right now. Once he has the consoles activated, we can then take the system over ourselves.

I do not want to rely on him.

[bit_impossible]

No, neither do I. But at this moment, I have no choice but to trust him. He's the only lead we've got.

[rubs the back of his neck] So, are you going to finally answer my question?

[eyes her] TARDIS...

[and maybe she was trying to find these consoles and maybe she was unable to get into Level Three and maybe she dismantled a couple robots in her anger, but that's neither here nor there]

[he's silent for a moment, waiting for her to continue.] ...And?

And nothing else.

[sighs, knowing she's not telling the full truth and simply returns to what he's doing.]

[let's it go because yay she won! and now she's picking at the pieces and trying to put them together]

[oh, she thinks that, does she? not this time! after a few minutes silence, he says] You do realise that you will have to tell me exactly what you were up to. Trying to find those consoles were you? Like Ollie was? Bet you didn't have any luck either.

I do not have to tell you. [is that indignance? well I do believe it is!] I am allowed to do what I want without your supervision.
