[when the sphere turns on--and it does so rather stubbornly, he notes, since he voluntarily turned on the communique instead of it randomly turning on for him--it shows a rather picturesque view of the beach, the fields, and even the tops of the trees far below. suddenly, a loud whirring noise be heard a moment later, the picture turning into nothing but static and snow while he fiddles with a couple settings in the sphere itself. his sonic screwdriver could still access the functions he needed, after a bit of tinkering of course, to boost the communications signal on a wide spectrum of channels.

hopefully, he would find the right one he needed to communicate with whomever is on that craft hanging hundreds of feet up above his head.

the whirring noise ceases a moment later and sphere quickly rights itself and flies out of his reach for the time being. he grins proudly at the sphere and looks down at the now tiny beach from his vantage point on top of the Crucible and then up at the other one. it had been quite the climb, but he made it nonetheless, like he told Ollie he would.]

Hello up there! [waves a hand at the new ship.] Couldn't help noticing you hanging about for the past couple days. Nice you could finally drop in for a visit! Afraid I can't offer any tea--well, not any tea that wasn't made with pollen saturated water, anyway--but I would if our ship here hadn't crashed. Hope you've noticed how it's partially buried into the land of this very green planet. I know that's the first thing I would note. [that's a lie, he'd notice half a dozen other things as well, but who's counting?] We're a little stranded here, as you no doubt have seen as well.

Anyway, thought I'd come up and greet you, break the communications barrier we seem to be having. I'm the Doctor by the way and this is...my sphere! [points a finger at it] Don't worry, it's harmless. I'd ask if you needed any sugar, being new neighbours and all, but I'm afraid I don't have any.

What I do have, however, are questions. Mainly ones to quell my fellow passengers' worries that you're going to open up fire on them at any moment. Which I'm sure you won't. [gives the new ship a look, his smile and humour gone for a moment.]

Will you?

[he shrugs, his smile slowly coming back] Not that I'm expecting an answer right away, though that'd be nice, but I'll wait up here patiently. It's a nice view anyway and I didn't climb up here to simply to leave empty-handed!

Oh, and by the way, [he turns and gives the sphere a wink, knowing he's being watched now], I opened up just about every broadcasting channel I know of, so our words should reach our new visitors up there.

And look! Haven't gotten shot with a single laser, ray, or blasting gun yet!

But what if it falls? Ooh, and you'll be trapped up there! How terrible! You don't want to get hurt, do you?

Still, it looks so high. ...Uh, how does the beach look from up all the way up there? The forest? Can you see anything new?

Hm. I guess it was too much to hope for? Still, that's not so bad. We must be so far out in the boondocks that no one would worry what must be going on out here, in any case.

Yes, yes, that may be so as well. It just seems so hard to believe! You're most knowledgeable, Doctor - are there any such young worlds you know of?

Half a million? You must be exaggerating!

Oh, suddenly I feel like such a shut-in. Maybe I should get out more? That's a lot of ground to cover, though, and we haven't even the technology for this sort of travel, yet.

Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself. Are there many civilized planets, too, then?

Thank you, I think. I just can't imagine it. Even now!

It's all right. I'm not such a genius - I can't keep up with anyone else, either!

I don't know, I'm not taking it very well, at all! A few more days and I'm going to start losing my hair. I like to travel, but this is just ridiculous, really.
