[after making sure anybody who' going to search has a device and is trained to use it, the Doctor finally sets off for the Enviro-dome! once there, he tries to remember where certain things were: the cabin in the middle of the forest, the lift from Level Ten, even the shoddy representation of Ancient Egypt.

for a while he walks, holding out his device until he reaches an approximate spot where the lift would have been--and the device goes off. it blares out obnoxiously because obviously all devices of a detecting sort should, at least to him.]

Ah ha...I think I have something here! [holds out his device and briskly walks around the area, the noise occasionally sounding off.] Yeeep, definitely have something. Odd place for it though.

[it takes him a while to get there; even though he can use his rank to get the transporter pads working, he doesn't dare, not when the captain could detect it.

he greets the Doctor with a nod, and kneels near the floor. a spoken command deactivates the simulation, revealing the bare machinery. his hand moves over the metal and and relays, looking for any access point. he pauses over a particularly complex bundle of bright blue wires beneath a thick transparent frame.

after a few seconds, he shakes his head] No, this isn't one of them. It is an extra addition that shouldn't be here; it probably feeds to another hidden area.

[watches him with interest, curious to see how boring it is beneath the simulation.] Well, or it could feed to Level Ten. An extra transporter pad appeared near here a long time ago.

Oh well! Come with me. There's more here I'd like to show you. Over this way--[puts a hand around Orion's shoulder and leads him, being careful not to go too fast]--was a cabin. Randomly appeared there when this place was turned into a winter wonderland.

[as he walks, he holds the device out in front of him. and soon enough, it goes off.] Ahhh, here we are then! If this doesn't work, I have another idea in mind, if you're up for it.

That's possible, too. Did the transporter pad just vanish? We experienced something like that before we evacuated. Machinery would just disappear and reappear later.

[lets himself be lead, and kneels again when the Doctor's scanner goes off. he repeats the process, and ends up shaking his head again] Wiring, for the most part. I think it runs to where you said that transporter pad used to be.

It did once we went into the black hole the first time. So did the snow.

[he sighs and offers his hand to Orion to help him up] Somehow, I'm not surprised. There's one more location and had you had your memory, you would've recognised it. Well, if this place looked like Ancient Egypt, perhaps.

[closes his eyes, remembering where he'd gone in Egypt that day--thank goodness for that terrific memory of his] and with his eyes semi-closed and the device out in front of him, he sets off again towards the spot where Orion had first planted the pulse package that Oliver had found before. yet again, the device goes off.]

Egypt...Oliver told me about that.

I'll check it. [comments as he works, brow furrowed with concentration] I considered using a pulse package before we decided to go with a secure transmission. It's interesting that I've done so before.

...ah, no wonder I picked this location to send it. [sits back on his heels so that the Doctor can see the bundle of bright blue wires] Another hidden relay cluster. Unfortunately, not what we're looking for.

[sighs] No, I didn't think so, but since we were here, I thought we ought to check it.

[offers his hand] Did you need help getting back or to your next destination? I can see about getting a wheelchair for you...

[gives him a look] Really, now's not the time to be stubborn about it, Orion. It won't help getting down stairs, but at least travelling around each level will make it easier for you.

Hey Doc, you don't look that busy! I gotta a question to throw at you: Why would this ship need a back-up console?

[arches an eyebrow at the "busy" part; detecting isn't easy work, darn it!] Ahh, well, in case something like this happens, for example. Someone lunatic's locked himself in the bridge and there aren't any other ways to control the ship's systems. It's a fail-safe, really. A really well hidden fail-safe...

It's not common place, though. The most there might be on a normal one is a panel of sorts that's linked to the ship's computer--and with a judicious amount of hacking, one could, potentially, come into control of every system on the ship.

This ship, however, is different. Orion's said there are individual cluster networks that operate independently of each other, so if, say, I try to take over the ship on Level 15, I'd only have control on that level--or even less depending on how much of the ship's systems have been compartmentalised.

Aaargh. Repost, sorry.

Let me translate that. What you're saying is that they'd have it in case the party controlling the ship was wasn't the most beneficial for those on board?

Somewhat, yes. It's not something you'd employ the use of normally. It's a fail-safe measure, like I said.
