Ah, always a conundrum. It would be nice to find out someday, though.
Hm, let's see. Over a thousand or so years ago, our planet's Guardians--Gods, I suppose--were locked in a battle with Demons from another universe. Basically, they'd come to a planet, take it over, inhabit it very briefly, then destroy it. However, the Guardians that created our world were quite strong and succeeded in trapping them, though they gave their physical bodies to do so. When this happened, a lot of the world's technology became forbidden, due to belief that it would cause a travesty like that again. We lost the technology to create flying machines and... well, Golems were out of the question, though I've recently uncovered nearly all of them.
Aside from that, though, the Guardians' disappearance had a profound effect on our planet. It's a near-wasteland, really. Plants don't grow in most areas, water... still exists, but if things keep going on... I'd give it three, maybe four hundred years before it nearly all dries up. It's pretty bad, but I still love my Filgaia.
Before I left, though, the Metal Demons had returned. We were amidst fighting them. I can only hope it goes well in my absence.
