[pinches the bridge of his nose] The universe does, yes, but time passes at different rates on different planets. Just because life appeared on your planet four billion years ago doesn't mean it took that long for life to evolve on other planets. Ancient and beautiful civilisations rose and fell before your ancestors even set a toe out of the primordial soup.

More to the point, though, you look like other intelligent lifeforms. The universe tends to repeat patterns it finds favourable, so figure yourself lucky!
