[his fire burns low, partially from the rain and partially because he's neglected it even though he specifically lit it to make tea. instead, he's spent a good deal of time after the mysterious message played pacing back and forth in the rain--if the mud trail he's blazed in front of his shelter is anything to be judged--but he pays it no mind and doesn't care that his sphere is recording--not that he notices. he's too busy muttering to himself.]

What'd that voice mean about the locals? The way it was said...sounded like the frog hybrids aren't the only life around here. But...if they're not, where have the real locals been this entire time? [he runs a hand through his drenched hair, clearly disturbed by this]

No, no, no, we shouldn't stay around to find out. [glances to the sky] There must be a way to signal that ship! But they mentioned a potential danger...are we that danger? We shouldn't shoot anything at it then. Not even my sonic screwdriver, even if it wasn't damaged in that fall, will help this time; can't risk scaring them off or worse.

[he pauses, looking around him. he can see a handful of smouldering fires coming up from various places around the field and wherever else his fellow passengers have set up camp. this gives him an idea]

The fires...the fires! All we have to do is burn--no, no, hang on a mo'. The question is what should we burn? Shouldn't burn that awful, awful fruit [pulls a face, remembering their taste] because some people actually like them. And burning the nuts and the other food stuffs is unwise as well, and no burning the fore--

The flowers. Ohhhh, of course, stupid Doctor, why didn't you think of that sooner? Those cheeky little flowers gave off that green pollen before! Perhaps it'll even turn the smoke green too! [he dashes out towards the field, skidding and sliding in the mud, and unceremoniously plucks a handful of flowers out of the ground before running back to his camp.]

Here goes nothing! [tosses the flowers onto the fire]

[eyes it for a moment, shrugs, and approaches him.] Nah, it'll be fine. A few minutes away won't hurt it.

Oh yeah, hope you don't mind, I borrowed a shirt and pair of trousers from you. I'll get them back once we get rescued.

[blinks] Uh...no problem. When was that? [can't picture the Doctor in his clothing, sorry]

Ah, well, must've caught you while you weren't there. Oh, the clothes weren't for me. They were for Naesala of the Raven tribe. Tall bloke, wings, can't miss him.

Oh. Can't have met him, then. [raises an eyebrow] Wait, wings? You might not want to worry about returning the shirt!

[beat] Right. The wings. Well, might be nothing a bit of needle and floss can't fix!

[smiles] Don't worry about it, Doctor. I've got plenty of shirts.

[nods and then a moment later his voice becomes slightly more serious] How's your head doing, Ollie? [cocks his head to the side, trying to look at the young man's face for that head wound]

[makes a face and mumbles] Better than most of the rest of me...

[with a reassuringly smile] It's healing up just fine. See? [turns his head obediently; the bump is shrinking--relative to head size, anyway--and the purple color is fading to yellow]

I can imagine... But I'm glad to see that bruise is going away too.

You worry too much, Doctor. At this point, it's just a bump. The headaches and dizziness are long gone.

I'd certainly hope so! Would've placed quite the damper on your beach party the other day.

[looks like a deer caught in headlights for a moment] You uh...noticed that then.

Who wouldn't? Sorry I didn't come, by the way. I was, uh...working through a few things.

[frowns, uncomfortable] That's all right. She understood.

[eyes him curiously] You mean 'I', don't you?

Ah...yeah... [scratches his head] I'm not really sure how to think of it.

She was you and you were her; what more is there to think about?

[frowns, uncertainly] That makes things a bit complicated, actually.

[makes a bit of a face] Eh, yeah, true. Slightly...

I...uh...I mean... [trails off awkwardly; he has no idea what he's trying to say]

[begins to laugh and smiles sheepishly]

[can't help giving me a smile back] You're certainly taking the whole thing well.

I'd gotten a little more time to think about it than you have!

That's true. [sighs] The whole thing is just...mixed up. [glances at him with a faint smile] I'm surprised you're not teasing me yet.

"Yet" being the operative word here.
